Police Custody Escape of Murder Suspect Sparks Outrage at Jatrabari Police Station

DHAKA — Security at a police station in the capital came under heavy scrutiny on Thursday morning after a female murder suspect managed to slip away from police custody at the Jatrabari Police Station.

The fugitive has been identified as Mosaddek Mitu Akter, 25. According to police sources, she managed to escape through cunning means at approximately 7:50 AM on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Akter was listed as an accused in Jatrabari Police Station Case No. 70, registered on July 20, 2026, under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code of 1860, concerning a murder charge. She had been brought into police custody three days prior to the incident and was undergoing intensive interrogation on a remand order. Today marked the final day of her remand, and she was scheduled to be transferred to a formal court of law. However, before the transfer could be executed, she vanished from station custody.

The unexpected escape has sent shockwaves through the local community and individuals residing near the station. Several victims and ordinary citizens who arrived at the station gates to seek public services expressed deep frustration and voiced multiple complaints to journalists present at the scene. “The Jatrabari Police Station feels entirely orphaned today. We come to the station seeking help and cooperation, but we are receiving none,”

said aggrieved citizens. They raised sharp questions over how such a high-profile murder suspect could easily breach police security and slip out of custody. Attempts to obtain an immediate official statement from the responsible police officials were unsuccessful as they declined to comment on record at the time.

However, law enforcement authorities confirmed that an extensive manhunt and operation to recapture the fugitive have already been launched. Meanwhile, senior police authorities have initiated an internal investigation to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the security lapse.
